Tip of the Week
"Writer's block is a phenomenon involving temporary loss of ability to begin or continue writing, usually due to lack of inspiration or creativity (Wikipedia)."
Writer's Block.
The very mention of the term sends shivers up a writer's spine. If you've never encountered it, consider yourself lucky. It can be one of the most frustrating, devistating times in a writer's life. It can make you feel imcompentent and like a total failure.
But writer's block doesn't have to take control of your life. Here are some tips that can help cut down the creative downtime.
1. Keep the creativity flowing. If you can't write at the moment then draw or do a character sketch or paint or go outside and take pictures. Sew or make jewelry. The point is to do something creative. Keep those juices flowing.
2. De-stress. Sometimes we writers can put pressure on ourselves to perform. Writers write because they enjoy it and enjoy the creative process. Stress can choke the creative spirit, so try and relax yourself. Turn to something that's fun and come back to writing later.
3. Schedule a time to write. Don't worry about the quality of the work, just keep writing. You can smooth out the bumps in editing.
4. If you are in the middle of writing a piece, put it down and just write what comes to mind. Who knows? A whole new piece may come out of it.
5. Do something different. Perhaps you'll get new inspiration by doing something you've never done before.
6. Take a break from the work, even if it's for a day or two. Sometimes a fresh eye can help re-animate your creative mind.
7. Write a basic outline of where you want to go. Knowing where you want to go will help you keep on track.
8. Read! Also watch movies, go to the theatre, or even play video games. All these things can help inspire you.
Hopefully, you will never have to traverse the desert that is Writer's Block, but if you do, may these tips provide life-living water to your parched creative side.
Try this excerise: Open a dictionary and pick out 20-30 random words (make sure to get an assortment of nouns, verbs, adjectives, but don't limit yourself to these). Write them on individual strips of paper. Then shuffle the papers and re-arrange them into sentences.

I'll keep this in mind.
I am not sure if this works, but the mere moment of memories and unwanted thoughts can trigger the brain too. :]
